A non-profit vocational school needed to update its chemistry lab to meet current standards. Funded in part by a grant
from Allegheny County DED, this $380,000 renovation acheived that new standard. Utilizing
space in the building that had previously been used for storage and maintenance, a large educational laboratory was created. The lab is divided into two areas, a wet lab and an instructional classroom space. Due to the need for extensive exhaust and HVAC ductwork, the lab was created without a ceiling, leaving all the mechanics of the space exposed. To contrast that, and to help define the instructional area, a lay in ceiling floats over that portion of the room, helping both acoustically and aesthetically. This is a Lami Grubb Architects project. Brian Viehland was their Project Architect for this job. |
